I See Dead People

Funerals are a common sighting in Xela. The grievers walk up the major streets through the city with family members carrying the coffin on their shoulders and end up in the cemetary where all the people of Xela live after death. Interestingly, men selling cotton candy follow the procession in case anyone wants to buy some sweets for the long haul.

The cemetary looks like a large city for tiny dead people. The cemetary is divided up into 3 sections. The first section includes the walls of graves, the second section is of the houses, and the third are the gravestones. The housing complexes for the dead appear like real homes, but just miniaturized. And all the tombstones and graves are colorful and individualistic much like the people when they lived. The houses are only for the rich people whereas the wall spaces are rented for 10 years and the gravestones are for the poor as well. If no family member claims the remains of the dead after the 10 year rental period, then the remains are moved into a common remains area. There is only so much space in the cementary, but the wall spaces open up regularly. I´m not sure I would want to move into a communal area after I die.

Saturday night, a couple friends and I went to a Drag Queen night club where I met Giselle, Miss Drag Queen of Xela. Giselle had left her crown at home, but had on her pageant title sash. She asked me to dance and we hit the dance floor. She pointed out her boyfriend to me and said that he is the jealous type, but it is okay for her to dance with women.

After her, Rodrigo asked me to dance. He kept telling me how hot and sexy I was as did Edgar. Edgar also said, "If I were straight, I would try to conquer your heart. You are every straight guy´s fantasy." He also yelled out, "Give it up for San Francisco" and we all yelled back. The next time I need an ego boost, I will be sure to come here again. Edgar even told Carolyn, to the right in the photo, that she is just like Britney Spears minus the crack.

Later, I found myself dancing sandwiched between two random guys and then Rodrigo made it three. Don´t worry, this is a PG-13 blog. I had so much fun dancing and Rodrigo even serenaded me in English. We watched the drag show until the police shut down the party at 1am. Technically, the bars are all suppose to close at 1am, but sometimes the bars bribe the police to stay open longer. That night, we headed home. By the way, still no word on the kidnapping.
